With a personal motto for inculcating in the young a love for Physics, Ms Tan makes it a mission to consistently set contextual issues for students to explore, investigate and subsequently derive an understanding through inquiry and reasoning.
Ms Tan (as known by her students) has more than 23 years teaching experience in the teaching of Physics to students in secondary schools preparing for the GCE ‘N’ Level, GCE ‘O’ Level. With her high level of innovation and creativity, she consistently motivates her students with the most stimulating methodologies, bringing abstract concepts in Physics down to pure simple logic that students appreciate. Students under her charge learnt to appreciate physical concepts and logic as phenomenon to understand and apply, and not merely for memorising. Her innovative teaching methodology inspires her students to consistently perform well in the major examinations. It is also her creative and stimulating teaching techniques that imbue in her students a love for the subject.

She believes that Physics is a subject for everyone, and the only way to learn it is through questioning and reasoning. Her journey through the years with students of different abilities and profiles also enabled her to be skilful in managing students with mild autism and ADHD.
Possessing a fiery passion in Physics and a deep interest in self-learning and exposure, Ms Tan journeyed herself to Taiwan to represent Singapore, in 2010, to present a conference paper in the International Science, Mathematics, Technology in Education Conference. The Conference saw academic participants from various continents all over the world. She was also selected by Ministry of Education to represent Singapore to attend a month-long International course, in Penang, for educators from ASEAN nations in 2010. She was honourably selected based on a curriculum framework that she pioneered for a school she was posted to. Ms Tan also represented the cohort as the valedictorian for the month-long course.
In her 23 years of teaching career, Ms Tan has also attended numerous exam marking workshops conducted by Singapore Examinations & Assessment Branch (SEAB) and is very familiar with assessment criteria.
Ms Tan holds a Master of Education (Curriculum & Teaching) from the National Institute of Education, a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering)(Hons), a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education and a Special Post-Graduate Diploma in Physics Education. She is also a certified Neuro-Linguistics Programming Practitioner.
